As motorsport fans, some of you may have seen a lot of posts online of motorsport related jewellery in the last few years; pendants in the shape of race tracks, flags, cars & helmets, bracelet charms, cufflinks and earrings too.
You may have seen these items being worn by Suzi Perry during Formula 1 coverage too during her time on the BBC, which seemed to have been launched out of the blue, but what many of you may not know about is the person who is behind this collection.
This is the work of Alyssa Smith. Someone who I’ve known for years and consider a good friend. The work that Alyssa has done with this ‘Smith&Perry’ motorsport collection not only brings motorsport themed jewellery to the world (& has exclusive licensing rights with Silverstone & Brands Hatch), but Alyssa & Suzi use this collection to raise money for the Promise Dreams charity, which Suzi is a patron of.
Before the launch of this collection, I don’t recall seeing or never would have considered a motorsport jewellery collection & it’s been nice to play a part in creating this. It was back in early 2013 that Alyssa contacted me, asking for my help and to tap into my knowledge of Formula 1. I was being asked about track layouts & making sure the ones that Alyssa was looking at were going the right way round!
That’s when I first heard about the Smith&Perry collection, during it’s initial inception and long before it’s launch. It has been an honour to have helped with this collection and all the good work this has lead to for the Promise Dreams charity.
Seeing that collection grow from simple pendants of race tracks or flags, to 3D cars and steering wheels or allowing everyone to show their support for their favourite driver with driver number pieces has been great to see & and Alyssa’s work has become more detailed and more intricate too.
Even after 3 years I still get the all sorts of requests for help and advice from Alyssa, and running new designs by me to make sure they look right, or picking my brain for any new ideas I can assist with. I’d say Alyssa has found quite a market with us motorsport fans (I myself have a pendant of Silverstone).
I know a few things about what’s coming up in the Smith&Perry collection, but I’m sworn to secrecy! I’m sure everyone will love all the new introductions and I’m glad to have played my small part in helping out.
