On 16th October 2011, the world of motorsport lost a champion.
Dan Wheldon lost his life after being one of 15 cars involved in a massive crash during the final round of the IndyCar series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Winner of the IndyCar championship in 2005, and two time Indy 500 winner in 2005 and 2011, Dan Wheldon was a true talent and one of Britain’s best, one that should have received more recognition for his achievements in Britain before his passing.
Throughout the world of motorsport, even just as viewers & fans, we all feel a sense of loss when we see a tragedy like the one witnessed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, despite most of us never meeting them. It is not only a loss to IndyCar, or motorsport, it is a loss to the world.
He will be missed
Rest In Peace Dan Wheldon
